The Future of Professionals Report 2026

Open the ungated report

At Thomson Reuters, we empower our customers with insights and solutions to thrive in an evolving landscape. Our fourth annual report reflects a clear shift, from whether AI will shape professional work to what’s at stake if organizations fail to execute an AI strategy effectively.

We are deeply committed to understanding how the evolving landscape shapes the professionals we serve, the industry, and society as a whole. As transformation accelerates, we remain focused on delivering insights and solutions that empower success, today and into the future.

Now in its fourth year, our flagship study has evolved and includes insights from over 1,800 professionals and C-level corporate executives from over 60 countries. This level of scrutiny enables us to understand how AI continues to shape the way professionals work, the work they do, and what it takes to get ahead. This year’s report illustrates a clear shift: AI is now embedded in professional work, but value hinges on effective execution and the right infrastructure. As a result, a gap is emerging between organizations achieving real impact and those falling behind, with increasing risks emerging across clients, talent, and governance.

Key findings

  • 66% of professionals say AI meets or exceeds expectations where a clear AI strategy is in place, compared to just 22% where there is none

  • 34% of professionals use AI their organization hasn't approved, creating invisible risks organizations cannot monitor or control

  • 41% lack access to tools that meet professional accountability standards — the kind where errors carry real consequences

  • 24% of professionals are considering leaving roles within 24-months that limit AI potential, with replacement costs averaging $232,000 per professional

  • 77% of corporate clients say AI-enabled quality from their professional service providers is essential, but just 5% say providers deliver it. 31% will reconsider those relationships within 12 months, with a third estimating $1 million or more in annual work at risk
